HOSPITAL IN A BOX

GPSMedical is pleased to announce its newest innovative product – HOSPITAL IN A BOX.

Lack of adequate diagnostic facilities in rural areas prevent rural dwellers from receiving accurate and timely diagnosis and care. Most hospitals and clinics in urban centers do not have in-house medical laboratory; they rely on the services offered by stand alone medical diagnostic providers. The capital investment needs to build laboratory capacity have made it prohibitive for most hospitals and clinics to have their own basic medical laboratory. The HOSPITAL IN A BOX is designed to provide solution to this troubling challenge in healthcare delivery particularly to the rural population.

HOSPITAL IN THE BOX: WHAT IS IT?

a) It is simply the size of your small hand luggage, light weight, portable, space efficient but rugged and can withstand harsh weathers and conditions.

b) It can be powered by a car battery, public electricity or connected to a car cigarette lighter

c) It fits easily into a small space in the room, in the car, train, boat, airplane and can be transported on a motorcycle

d) Any regular person can be trained to use it

e) It is your diagnostic laboratory and care unit with capacity to effectively perform SEVEN distinct functions:

1. Electrocardiogram

(examines how well your heart is doing)

Helps to diagnose:

-Fast or slow heart rate

-Diseases of the heart and the sac of the heart

-Enlarged heart

-Heart attack

-Heart failure

-Fluid in the sac covering the heart

No special EKG paper is needed –

saving providers average of $5,000 annually

2. Spirometer

(examines how well your lung is doing)

The lungs can have diseases like:

-Asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease

-Bronchitis, bronchiolitis, croup

-Pneumonia, hard lung tissue, etc

3. Pulse-oximeter

(measures oxygen level in the blood and heart rate)

Helps to differentiate the following:

-Lung diseases – such as Asthma from

-Cardiac diseases – heart failure from

-Blue babies who drank insecticide contaminated well water used by farmers from

-Endocrine diseases such as DKA

Not every panting patient has a lung disease just as not all bluish patients need oxygen.

4. Automatic Syphgomanometer – blood pressure machine

(measures blood pressure)

Helps to diagnose:

-High blood pressure

-Low blood pressure

-Systolic hypertension

-Dizziness due to changing blood pressure with changes in the patient’s position.

5. Thermometer

(measures temperature on the forehead in seconds)

Helps to diagnose:

-Fever

-Febrile seisure

6. Nebulizer

(This is a life saver)

There have been stories of people who died in remote clinics, in villages and in some hospitals in the developing countries because they never had an access to a nebulizer. This is a life saver:

-In remote clinics

-In poorly equipped hospitals and clinics

-Handy while traveling by air, road or sea

-In the battle fields

-At sites of natural disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes or other emergency situations

-During clinical home visits

7. Hand held device

(Can be used to examine any part of the body)

Helps to examine:

-Eyes

-Ears

-Nose

-Mouth

-Throat

-Skin

-Extremities

-And many more

HOSPITAL IN THE BOX: HOW DOES IT WORK?

On the desktop are icons for all the examinations that can be performed by the machine. When each examination is performed, the results are stored in each of the individualized folders which are also placed on the desktops. The results of the examinations can either be stored in flash drives or can be sent through the internet (where connectivity is available) to assigned SERVERS. Doctors assigned to the site where the machine is being used can log into the server to review the results and send his recommendation back to the provider (See the diagram). For example if we train providers using the machine at each of the REMOTE locations in a given local government area, state or municipality, the providers can send the test results to a SERVER in any country, i.e. United States, Nigeria, South Africa, Russia, England, Egypt, France, Brazil and the assigned Doctors can log into the SERVER, review the results and send recommendations back to the providers. Even a physician on vacation can review the results with access to the SERVER.

HOSPITAL IN THE BOX: How does it affect the consumer experience?

In developing countries, current ratio of medical doctor to population is 3:100-200,000 depends on the particular area being reviewed.

Our goal is to increase efficiency and productivity of physicians to provide accurate and timely diagnosis and provide appropriate care at the least cost.

With HOSPITAL IN THE BOX,

– People do not have to travel hundreds of miles to get good care.

– Diagnostic care is readily available, accessible and affordable.

– People will be able to get annual physical examinations and thus begin to enjoy the benefits of preventative care.

– People do not have to stand on long lines and wait for hours to be seen by the attending physicians or their assistants.

– More lives will be saved, especially those with lung diseases such as Asthma.
